Dropped off a bunch of Not Made In China goods at The Common Market this morning. The modern general store will now be carrying NMIC magnets, pins, and (of course) bottle openers! So next time you're in Plaza Midwood or South End, stop by the CM for an ice cold beer and sneak a peak at their newest inventory. Add Comment Last Friday, my favorite new photographer and I had a three hour photo shoot. Melissa McDougall, of Belle Photography (website coming soon), is an artist. My goal was to capture Not Made In China's products-in-action, and I am absolutely THRILLED with the results. These are just some proofs of the over 300 photos taken. In the coming weeks, I hope to overhaul the "gallery" portion of my website with the new and improved images. Now, if only I could find another model who would pose for free... Store Update: Fabric Mirrors Coming Soon! 06/27/2010
I'm a fabric addict. And although I do have a sewing machine, and can make a mean pillow (if my mom helps), I'm not a seamstress by any means. So, instead, I maintain more of a fabric library. It's like an art collection in a drawer. I like to pull them out every once in awhile, drool on them a bit, imagine myself constructing purses or aprons or pillows out of them, and then put them back in their drawer. But since I discovered how to create pocket mirrors, now my fabrics can lead the lives I'd only dreamt about. Hope you like!
See all 9 inaugural mirrors after the jump! Seriously gave me chills. Recap: Make Out - Collaged Coasters 06/25/2010
Cut, paste, repeat. For such a simple process, the results of Crown Town Handmade's collaged coasters run the gamut. Using old magazines, comics, Modge Podge, bathroom tiles and a little imagination, CTHm Members yielded some great places to rest icy beverages (mine's the "faux-saic" in the upper left). Hope to see you at the next Make-Out on bookbinding (psssst... Not Made In China is instructing). Mark your calendars for Thursday, July 22nd! Inspiration: Badge a Day 06/24/2010
Badge a Day is a daily button project created by UK based designer, Stuart Bannocks. Stuart has being designing a different pin everyday since May of 2009. As you can see he gets pretty inventive with his concepts. More daily badges after the jump!
TOMORROW NIGHT! Thursday, June 24th... Amanda Fisher of Verabelle vintage clothing (clothing as unique as you are!) will show us how to make decoupage coasters using tile blocks and magazine clippings. Bring your scissors, your paste (Modpodge or decoupage glue), a stack of old magazines, and an attitude. No glue sniffing allowed, but BYOB/Wine is totally welcome for a $5/bottle/sixpack corking fee. Patchwerk Playhaus is behind Century Vintage on Central Avenue, accessible through the alley between Soul Gastro Lounge/Twenty-Two and Snug Harbor. A few weeks ago Not Made In China was featured on a blog called the Farthing Collective. The group's ring leader came across my "Rednecks, White Collars, Blue Skies" and "Fuck the Epicentre" buttons at the All Arts Market in Noda. One thing led to another, and (drumroll) Not Made In China is now a proud contributor to the Farthing Collective. The blog reports on design, urban culture, events, trends, food, DIY's and is updated by members from across the country. So not only is the content fresh, it's got a local vibe with a national presence. A reenactment of my initiation into the Farthing Collective. Inspiration: Illustrated Music Lyrics 06/23/2010
Saw these illustrated music lyrics a while back and just had to post the Smiths' line (the same line that was used uber romantically in 500 Days of Summer) . Check out Music Philosophy for more of your favorite artist's one-liners in print. I Made: A Terrarium 06/21/2010
News Flash: Terrariums are all the rage. Of course, until last Friday, I was calling them “Terrainiums.” Have I reached that point where I start making up names for new fads? Like when my mom says FaceSpace? Ugh. But like my mom (who has since joined Facebook and now comments on my every post), I’ve seen the err of my ways, and am now a Terrarium Aficionado... thanks to Crown Town Handmade.
