Waking Sleeping Beauty is a fascinating documentary about the Disney employees who saved the dynasty from near disaster. Join me, and the fabulous designers of AIGA Charlotte and UNCC, for a look at the artists, creators, animators and storytellers who turned the company around and churned-out our favorite childhood animated films (Little Mermaid anyone!?.... I've got gadget and gizmos of plenty.... I've got whozits and whatzits galore... you want thing-a-ma-bobs? I've got plenty....). The artists were polarized between newcomers hungry to innovate and old timers not yet ready to relinquish control. These conditions produced a series of box-office flops and pessimistic forecasts: maybe the best days of animation were over. Maybe the public didn't care. Only a miracle or a magic spell could produce a happy ending. Waking Sleeping Beauty is no fairy tale. It's the true story of how Disney regained its magic with a staggering output of hits - "Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast ," "Aladdin," "The Lion King," and more - over a 10-year period. Join us as we follow Tim Burton, John Lasseter, Ron Clements, John Musker, Michael Eisner, Roger Allers, Gary Trousdale, Kirk Wise, Roy E. Disney, and many others on their magical journey of Waking Sleeping Beauty! www.wakingsleepingbeautymovie.com

I know, I know, Christmas already? It was only Halloween yesterday! I'm right there with ya. HOWEVER, I just have to make an exception for Freshly Blended's 5th Annual Holiday Ornament Swap. Deadlines are at stake here folks. This ain't your mom's ornament exchange. Each participant makes 8-10 ornaments and in return they'll receive 8-10 ornaments from people all over the country/perhaps even world. Yeah, it's kinda like those chain letters you did back in grade school... but I'm such an optimist, I just know they'll write back... I mean send me an ornament. Registration opened today and ends on Sunday, Nov. 7th. Swappers will be notified of their recipients Nov. 15th and ornaments must be mailed by Dec. 10th. Did I mention it's free to participate? So snap out of your candy coma and sign up to swap!

Elle Palmer was blessed with the bargain hunter's eye. You know the type... you ask her where she got her FABULOUS, strapless, floor length dress and she responds, "At a garage sale... it was $5!" Then you resolve to go to the Goodwill in search of such a find, but all you see is a pile of Bermuda shorts, shoulder pads, "mom" jeans and "teacher" sweaters. It wasn't long before Elle found herself buying things for friends and hosting clothing swap parties at her house. Her style expertise and affordable fashion sense was soon in demand. That's when Elle decided to turn her hobby into something more. She calls it Urban Gypsy. For months Elle's been scavenging, collecting, wheeling and dealing. Eventually she'd like to open a store, but for now she's testing the waters with her first ever "trunk show," happening this Sunday. Urban Gypsy will be showcasing gently worn, brand name clothing, shoes, jewelry, vintage apparel etc. And the event promises more than just shopping, there will be giveaways (cut/color/style from an upscale salon, a full service facial, mani/pedi, etc), food, mingling, drinks, music and more. I can't wait to see what's in store... or should I say trunk? WHEN: Sunday, September 19th from 2:00pm-8:00pm WHERE: Elle's House | 1909 Tippah Avenue | Charlotte, NC (only cash and checks will be accepted)
