In the words of Wynonna and Naomi Judd, "Have Mercy!" The Metrolina Antiques Fall Classic did not disappoint.

Here's what I got:
1. A festive fall hat - Annie Hall style with feathers ($20)
2. A vintage tooled leather portfolio case - the zipper is broken... but I'll get it fixed ($30)
3. Two southwest style travel bags - Navajo print is all the rage this fall ($10 for both)
4. About a half dozen records - including The Judds and Dolly Pardon ($10)
5. (Not Pictured) A Jadite Jeannette ribbed salt shaker ($10)

Since I was at MoogFest in Asheville for Halloween this year, we decided to go with some low maintenance costumes: vintage inspired masks. I was instantly drawn to the bright  - I'm talking neon - colors and funky faces. They were a hit on the streets of Asheville and garnered many random comments from our fellow concert goers.

I found the masks at a retail shop in Louisville, KY (for $2 each), but they're also available online at Party Partners Shop (12 for $11.95). Ya know, for next year...

Now, if  only I could decide how to use it...

If you've ever turned over a piece of Jadite in a store, you've probably suffered a mild case of sticker shock. It's hard to find a good deal on the milky green glass at antique stores these days. That's why I've turned to some less traditional forms of 'tiquing: eBay and Craigslist. I recently found 8 plates (4 Jane Ray & 4 Swirl) on Craigslist, and a Sunkist juicer and refrigerator dish on eBay. It does require a little more work/hassle (bidding, shipping, meeting-up, etc), plus I tend to buy more when I'm getting a deal, but I saved about half the retail price!

When I saw these two beauts, it was love at first sight. Paint-by-number isn't just kitschy art, it's memorabilia from original Do-It-Yourself movement (which began in the 1950s). The phenomenon claimed to turn housewives into Rembrandts. It democratized art.

Some vintage juice glasses I picked up from Metrolina's monthly Antiques Flea Market... it's coming up again this weekend (Sept 30 - Oct 3).  Go get you something!

The beginning of my new vintage button collection. So far, I think I'm off to a pretty good start.

I couldn't resist the innocent illustrations and vibrant colors portrayed in this set of vintage greeting cards. Last weekend, I bought a stack of over 20 incremental birthday cards (Mia Cards - from England to be exact) featuring 9 different designs. There's only one complete set (of years 1-9), but I thought it would make a great keepsake for a nursery... or maybe chapter headings in a kid's scrapbook. Don't get me wrong, I don't plan on using these for a WHILE. Wait a second, am I nesting? Guess I'll just tuck them gingerly in my hope chest -- I keed, I keed!

I think this purse and I were destined to be together.
"Why?" you ask. Well here is my case:

Exhibit A - My elementary school mascot was the Garrison Gator
Exhibit B - Growing up, I had a strange obsession with Crocodile Dundee I & II
Exhibit C - Notice the alligators right foot... see all the toes are missing?
Six years ago, I broke all the toes in my right foot playing soccer
Exhibit D - If it ever gets stolen I can say, matter-a-factly:
"Yes, it grew legs and walked away."
Exhibit E - The salesman at the Metrolina Antiques Show assured me
                           this purchase was meant-to-be

Ok, so I admit it's a little creepy, and some may cry PETA, but would you rather this alligator's fashion sacrifice be in vain? What's done is done... Now all I need is one of those mink stoles with all the heads still in tact.

Had an amazing time in San Francisco (more details on that later). Brought home a few souvenirs from boutiques and vintage shops in the Mission and Castro neighborhoods.
