You're looking at my latest purchase. Made a visit to Niche Market this afternoon and bought some philanthropic footwear. TOMS Shoes are more than just your average loafers...

"TOMS Shoes was founded on a simple premise: With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One. Using the purchasing power of individuals to benefit the greater good is what we're all about. The TOMS One for One business model transforms our customers into benefactors, which allows us to grow a truly sustainable business rather than depending on fundraising for support." Ironically, many of TOMS Shoes ARE made in China. It even says so on their website's FAQ page.

These shoes are INDEED made in China. They are NOT fair trade certified. We just have to trust that the FOR PROFIT company is upholding labor laws. Shoes are made through contracts... Tom's does not own the shoe manufacturing operations.

Thanks for all the info, folks. I had no idea these shoes were made in China. I think the premise and 1-for-1 business model is a fantastic idea, but you're right, let's hope they're upholding labor laws. Maybe we should petition to get them made in the USA!

Once I found out these shoes were made in china I immediately thought "What hypocrites" considering nearly everything made in China is made using child labor. US made shoes are hard to find.

I had a good laugh at this. And yes I see you've learned that TOMS are indeed made in China, but it's still hilarious to me!!
