(TONS MORE after the jump!)
Our classroom may have been filled with vintage furniture, shag carpet, a few beers and a student with a handlebar mustache... but learning was a hap-o-nen'. Not Made In China was honored to lead July's Make-Out Session on Japanese book binding. I haven't taught high school in over four years, but I still managed to channel Ms. Mueller and make some little illustrated instruction zines (above) for my students. Various Crown Town Handmade girls stitching it up! I love the ambience of Century Vintage (the owners so graciously allow us to hold our monthly craft sessions in their fabulous back room). (TONS MORE after the jump!) Favorite quote from the night, "Heidi Klum got nailed... that's what Seal said." We used old magazines to avoid hammering holes through the floor. I think the hammering made the dudes feel a little more at ease about attending a craft class. Ta-da! Each book is made entirely out of recycled paper which made for a wide variety of finished products. I was so impressed with everyone's mad binding skills! A few over-achievers took their stitching to the next level, getting pretty inventive with their thread patterns. Some happy campers. If only we could stick the masterpieces on the fridge for mom to see... CommentsMs. Branon 07/27/2010 4:48pm
Oh what I would give to see Ms. Mueller in action again! Lovely books y'all. Well done. Leave a Reply |
